The 2002 WinWriters Salary Survey
Is Everybody Happy?

Apparently most of us are quite content with the salary we receive. In this survey, 82% of the respondents indicate they are either Satisfied or Very Satisfied with their compensation. Only 2% are Very Dissatisfied.

However, the amount of income from which we derive our satisfaction varies widely. While the average for the Very Satisfied is a sizeable $77,000, the range is from $35,000 to $160,000. Although the average for the Very Dissatisfied is much lower at $51,000, the range is still a very broad $20,000 to $120,000.

Salary Satisfaction

Non-Monetary SatisfactionMoney isn't everything, so we asked how happy people are with the non-monetary aspects of their jobs. Apparently, most of us are happy campers with 84% responding they are Satisfied or Very Satisfied.

All the monetary and non-monetary results are virtually identical to those in last year's survey.

Work Environment

In a few short months, our industry and our world have undergone fundamental changes. As computer and software developers respond to economic and technological forces, our profession is experiencing change as well. We asked the respondents what working conditions have been significantly affected over the past six months. Half of the respondents indicated their organizations were experiencing permanent staff layoffs, budget cuts, and increased workload. A third have experienced a wage freeze. Although salaries continued to grow in our community this past year, the recipients are working harder to earn it.
